New Orleans Facing Hurrican Gustav
Hurricane Gustav (as I write this) is about 24 hours or so away from giving New Orleans a slap potentially bigger than Katrina, and quite possibly on that scale.
It has been very interesting watching Mayor Nagin ordering manditory evacuations long before the storm hits, President Bush declaring a state of emergency, and everyone and their dog clambering to get it right this time. After the disaster that was disaster managerment last time, we can only hope they do better.
The Republican National Convention to annoint McCain and his lady friend as candidates is scheduled to start on Tuesday, and it looks like many of the Republicans in power (including Bush and Cheney) have already cancelled their appearances to man the helm during this storm. Potentially, Gustav may cost McCain the election, as the convention is usually good for a few points plus in the polls.
This storm could also be the last hurrah for New Orleans as we know it. Any additional flooding or flood damage to repaired or partially repaired housed pretty much could be the end for many.
