I can’t be on the jury, I am on drugs
I know people have used some pretty weird excuses for getting out of jury duty, especially if it looks like the case could be a long one and make your life difficult. From religeous reasons to family illnesses and whatnot, people have been semi-scamming their way out of this civic responsilbity for years.
However, this is a new twist on the game. A 21 year old man from Columbus, OH, admitted not only to “Jonesing for some heroin” but that he had killed someone. Not smart, these smart aleck answers and a non-cooperative demeanor in the court room gained him a little time in jail.
