Fire Colbert and The Strangeness of the Trump Era
This will be a bit of a short story, but I have to say something because I find it pretty offensive. On Stephen Colbert’s late night show monologue on May 2nd, the comedian and show host made what some consider a gay slur about President Donald Trump (say his moith is a holster for Putin’s appendage). People have been screaming “homophobic” (it’s not anti-gay. it’s not an insult against gay people unless they are offended by Donald Trump perhaps sharing something in common with them). People have started the standard #firecolbert hashtag on Twitter.
This takes some context to understand. President Trump, before being elected, clearly stated things about women that many considered disgusting and demeaning to women. Saying you should just “grab them by the p***y”. Given that little piece of context, Colbert’s comments are off color but not out of the range that the President himself has long since established.
If you want to #firecolbert, then you better #firetrump too!
See, I told you that would be short!
